Through my journey I discovered that by combining your personality + productivity style you essentially create a unique map for planning + doing your day. With this map you can discover what kind of planner works best for you. And how to do your day in the most productive way.

I’ve distilled what I’ve learnt into 4 plan+do™ styles. Over the coming weeks I’ll take you though each of them so you can see how to plan+do with your unique style.

Creative plan+do™ style

The Creative style isn’t about being arty, although many arty people may find themselves within the Creative plan+do™ style.

When I started using my ideal planner pages I couldn’t believe how much better my days worked out. I was no longer fighting with myself to keep to a system that just wasn’t me.

I was able to bust out of the planning loop + actually get things done. Using a one page weekly and a master todo list spread was freedom! But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Let’s take a look at the Creative plan+do™ style to see how you can use your unique planner + organise your day with ease.

Creative Personality

Like I mentioned earlier, Creatives aren’t just arty, although many may be who related to the Creative plan+do™ style.

You’re a big picture thinker.

You enjoy exploring new ideas + coming up with innovative solutions. Creatives love nothing better than turning an old idea into something new. You like to tweak tradition.

Often times you find yourself challenging the status quo just to see what happens. You find it difficult to accept something … just because.

Questions for you often start with “What if …?” or “Why …?”

Creative Planning

Because of your flexibility + the way you like to explore life, how you plan your day will look different too. When you can structure your day from a big picture perspective, you focus better.

Give yourself the gift of flexibility + the space to create a day that works with you. A tightly scheduled day doesn’t bring you peace or joy like it does for others.

Ideally you like to work with large chunks of time for your projects. This allows you to work from that big picture focus, and have time to get into the details + do what needs to be done.

Having a theme for your week or days works great. Knowing that you have plenty of time set aside to dive into projects or tasks helps to keep you from getting bored or distracted.

Within these weekly or daily themes you can batch smaller + less exciting tasks together to keep you from getting distracted. Perfect for getting those tedious yet important tasks done.

For example you may organise your days with:
Monday – admin, planning or errands
Tuesday – marketing or social dates
Wednesday + Thursday – creating and
Friday – an overflow or margin day.

If you are having a themed week, focusing on a particular project, you may like to divide your days into different parts of the project. You don’t have to have your own business or a career to take advantage of theme weeks, days + batching. They work great for the most important job in the world too, parenting!

As a self confessed serial project starter, having theme weeks + days helps me focus on what needs to be done. Since implementing this style of planning I’ve completed projects I had on the go for months, in a relatively short period of time.

Now that’s what I call planner peace!

To have that big picture view of what’s happening you enjoy using a double page spread of both the year and month pages.

And just like your schedule, you love lots of white space in your planner. Make sure you have plenty of grid or note pages throughout your planner to capture those ideas when they come. You may even like to add some to the reverse side of your week + month pages.

With a weekly page + a master todo list you’ll have the flexibility you crave while being able to focus on what matters.

If you are coordinating a larger family or mixing personal + business together you may prefer a double week spread with your master todo list.

Clear your mind with a weekly meeting. They are great for families too. Write down everything that needs your attention for the coming week. A side yet beneficial bonus is that now everyone else knows what they are responsible for. Your mind can be used for other creative things instead of trying to remember things for yourself + others.

Either the night before or early that morning list the top three things you need to do for the day. And if you have time to spare after these are done you can check in with your master todo list for what’s next.

When things pop into your mind simply write it on the master todo list. Even though you’d love to chat to them straight away, with it written down you don’t need to be concerned that you’ll forget about it later.

Stickers, washi tape + coloured pens are essentials as you get things done. There isn’t a crafting product that’s off limits for you. Add some photos + your planner becomes a keepsake too!
