Could there be something that you are doing right now that if you ceased would actually be your key to moving forward? Can doing nothing really move you toward your goal? I believe at the right time, doing nothing can be the most important thing you can do!
I was reflecting recently on how dry our garden is. Realising we have had next to no rain for quite some time now, I could almost hear the fruit trees crying out for water. Even the Lemonade tree’s leaves were curled. It was time to give them some relief. As I was about to finish watering I noticed a thriving plant. How could this be in our current situation?
With the lack of rain the plants also lacked attention from me. Usually I enjoy being in the garden. Like at the beach, I find it easy to connect with nature and our Creator in the garden. They are both wonderful places where time almost ceases to exist, perfect for reflection and birthing new ideas. The garden can be an unmotivating place to be when in a dry spell though. So how and why was this plant thriving?
Under our back stairs I had planted my little grape vine, a gift from friends for last year’s birthday. I had been watering it, and almost killed it with kindness. I actually thought it was gone. Little did I realise that the perfect conditions for it to not only survive but thrive were forming.
It was at this moment that I realised, “Sometimes it’s knowing when not to, that is the key to moving forward“.
At this time of the year I am keenly aware of where I am with my dreams and goals. This year has been full of twists and turns. During those times I saw those detours as road blocks, keeping me from making progress. In reflection those things weren’t actually moving me away from what I was aiming for. Those unexpected set backs or detours have helped me. By not being busy in the name of progress, I was able to use that pause to reflect on why I was stuck. Having that time of doing nothing turned out to be a blessing. I was able to see the new shoots of where I should be headed, my next steps, rather than killing my dream with busyness.
It is amazing how seemingly annoying inconveniences can be a blessing in disguise. But that is a story for another day.
I love it when life gives to you in this way, shows you something you need, teaches just what you need to know right now. The secret to discovering these precious gems is to use that time of doing nothing as a time for a little reflection.
Simple Steps: Take Action
